How to become an independent student?

When we were young children and were going to primary school, our fathers, teacher or maybe a big brother, used to help us with homework, but that happened a few years ago, in my case, 12 years ago.

For example, I remember when I was 9 years, I took the decision to become an "independent" girl at school, so no one had to help me with homework and I didn’t depend from my mother to do my things. That was a very difficult decision, especially to my mom, because that day she started to realized how I will be, an independent, mature, organized and serious girl. At beginning it was very difficult to me, because this happen one day to another, and I´m a very proud person, so I couldn´t ask for some help to anyone. This is why I started paying attention in class and study more. I had to show everyone that I could do things for myself, and even more important, I could do it great. Since that day, my life has changed. In everything I do, I always do it by my self and only when I´m not sure about something I ask for some help.

Maybe this isn’t the best way, because in many cases my pride stop me and I can´t do a lot of things because I don´t what to ask for help or I fell sorry when I do it. Some times I think that people will laugh at me and they going to think that I´m stupid or clueless. I´m sure this is the negative side of my personality, but on the other side has helped me a lot grow mature and more important to become an independent student.

This is going to sound like a psychologist speech, but I really believe that if we want to do something or turn us into something, the only way is having it as goal, we fight for it and really wish it. Good things never happen to lazy people, we must make an effort to get our goals. In school we have to go to all our classes, do our homework, study in the library, read the newspaper, internet research, etcetera. We can´t be content with what we learn in class, we must do a lot of activities when we can learn more about our school, form example books, conferences, reunions whit people from our class, speaking with other professors and more important forgetting the pride and asking for help when we need it.

Now we are college students, so we must be able to do our things for ourselves, with least possible help. We are adults and our obligation is been preparing for an independent live.
